Nicolas Wendl was born in Munich, Germany, to a French mother and a German father. He discovered his passion for filmmaking at the age of 11 and has been developing his craft as a visual storyteller from that day on. His early teenage short films screened at several film festivals before he moved to California in 2009 to attend Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. During his time at Chapman, Nicolas directed two acclaimed short films both starring Richard Burgi (Desperate Housewives, The Sentinel) “How They Smiled” (2011) and his Senior Thesis “From The Woods” (2013) which screened at multiple film festivals and won several awards. Nicolas graduated with Summa Cum Laude and a BFA in Film Production in 2013.

After moving to Los Angeles, Nicolas started working on short narrative films as well as music videos while working as the head videographer for STAPLES Center/Microsoft Theater/The Grammy Museum and LA LIVE. Nicolas started collaborating with various singers and bands to bring their music to life through music videos. He has directed such recognizable actors as Jim O’Heir, Richard Brancatisano, Chelsea Briggs and musicians like Guns N’ Roses, among others. His music videos have premiered on Billboard, MTV and Taste of Country and AXS. In 2015 Nicolas directed ELISA a short drama film which had its premiere at the Academy Awards qualifying LA SHORTS Fest in downtown LA.

Nicolas strives to tell entertaining and intriguing stories and always loves to stay busy and create. In the spring of 2018 Nicolas came onboard a non-profit animated short film ZOUA, a Swiss/American co-production with a story created by children battling cancer. He is currently attached to several feature films that are in development, one of which is a feature adaptation of his senior thesis.

Nicolas has directed projects for Amazon, Hulu, and international short form series. In 2023 he helmed the indie horror film "Stupid Games" which he also produced. The horror feature is distributed by V Channels Media.

WendlWood is the name and brand Nicolas created at a young age to associate his artistic achievements with. His goal is to turn it into a professional production company when the time is right.
